St. Croix, V.I.: He reach!!!
James "Jamsie" Brewster of St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands has completed another successful tour of Denmark with the Original Danish Polcalypso Orchestra, also known as Karlekammeret. According to founder Kazio Kierpaul, the CD is finally ready; this is the second 'live and direct' Jamesie/Polcalypso CD.
(The Karlekammeret site is in Danish, but features a link that translates to English. The Danish/West Indian Society in Denmark has more details and images of Jamesie's visit; this site is available only in Danish)
Fans of Jamesie's know that he is a master of Quailbae, or Quelbe music, a Virgin Islands musical art form that is usually performed by 'fungi' or 'scratch' bands. Jamesie is also a craftsman, skilled in woodworking and the making of cultural instruments such as the ukelele that he plays. His teasingly gruff call-and-response style keeps the kaiso hot and the 'tory high!
