The Bahamas is a country made up of 29 islands, 661 keys, and 2,387 islets (mini-islands and rocks in the sea) - properly referred to as the the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

When the slave trade was abolished within the British Empire in 1807 the Royal Navy left many slaves in The Bahamas; their descendants as well as those of many liberated Africans are the majority of the population, and The Bahamas is the 3rd wealthiest nation in the Americas (behind the U.S. and Canada).
