Antigua Celebrates Culture with the World Via Web Site

by Anita Davis

Antigua, W.I.: Antigua literally flung itself into the 21st century with the grand opening of its website in 2002. In addition to a new website, the Antigua Carnival Committee received the unflagging support of Cable & Wireless, with a package totalling EC $80,000 in cash and services. Participation from area concerns and the commmunity at large ensured a harmonious and fun cultural exchange. For those who could not be in Antigua, the fun may be experienced online via winner lists, wrapups and photo galleries online.

The Official Antigua Carnival site is accessible at www.antiguacarnival.com; the site deserves some kudos for being high-tech, yet easy to navigate and use. A sidebar holds links to The Carnival schedule, the latest Carnival news, judging criteria, Carnival memories, and other links.

A pair of happy young revellers (from the official site)

The support of government officials, links to steel pan, calypso, pageantry and mas activities keeps visitors up to date. If you're inspired to visit Antigua in or out of season, there's a link for you, too!
