April 18, 2006 – British Virgin Islands: On Tuesday April 18th the BVI Music Festival Committee launched the 6th Annual BVI Music Festival at the Mooring Marina Inn. Members of the local media, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, The BVI Tourist Board and the presenting sponsor of this year’s festival – Cable & Wireless attended.
Chairman of the BVI Music Festival Frank Mahoney thanked Cable & Wireless for their support from the inception of the BVI Music Fest back in 2001 and what they have done for the community over the last 39 years. Mr. Mahoney went on to give the exciting line up for this year’s festival. Leading artists from all over the world will be apart of this exciting extravaganza. Artist in every category from the world of entertainment beginning with calypso and soca out of Trinidad & Tobago Power Soca & Groovy Soca 2006 champion Shurwayne Winchester. For the first time ever rocking the stage out of Atlanta Georgia the 5 Star Iris, back by popular demand out of St. John USVI Cool Session Band, out of Jamaica the famous dance hall/reggae artist Bu Ju Banton and sweet jazz from Paradise Band out of St. Croix. But the excitement does not end there as Committee Chairman Frank Mahoney went on, the soulful harmony of the Stylistics and the dynamic 60’s – 80’s icon Roberta Flack both out of the USA will take this year’s festival to its climax.
Also speaking at the launch were Cable & Wireless Cooperate Communications Manager La Verne Hodge. Mrs. Hodge said that Cable & Wireless is EXCITED. Excited to be apart of such a significant event from it’s inception. Mrs. Hodge went on to say that Cable & Wireless is particularly pleased that their broadband customers will be able to download from their website www.candw.vg to MP3 players some of the music featuring this year’s entertainers. Also parts of the event will be live via video streaming also on the above mentioned web site. To further Cable & Wireless excitement Mrs. Hodge was able to announce a partnership between Cable & Wireless and MTV Networks and their subsidiary, Tempo. This partnership will provide the opportunity for Tempo to be on island and capture all the enthusiasm and energy surrounding the Music Fest and share it with our global neighbors.
Inspector Headley from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force asks that motorist use caution during this time and the police traffic department will give further instructions to the public on which routes to drive and the shuttle use to and from the Music Fest. Inspector Headley also asked the public not to park along the hill side to and from Cane Garden Bay, as this can be a hazard in emergency situations. He also went on to say that a strategy will be put into place for the residents and business owners of Cane Garden to traffic during that time with out any hassles.
Also speaking at the launch was Mr. Rhodni Skelton from the BVI Tourist Board. Mr. Skelton commented that the Tourist Board is taking every step to promote the BVI Music Festival. All of their international offices are currently running promotions over seas as well as the local office here in the BVI by inviting global media and currently advertising through every medium available. This also includes all airlines and cruise ships magazines.
The BVI Music Fest will be free of charge each day until 6pm each day and a donation of $10.00 is asked from persons attending after that time. The festival is scheduled to run from May 26th – 29th at Cane Garden Bay Beach where the sound of music will blend with the sound of nature.
