June 1, 2004: Virgin Islands Moving Center, distributed at www.VIMovingCenter.com, is the Virgin Islands’ first on-line guide for information on moving to and living in the Virgin Islands. VIMovingCenter.com is a comprehensive source of reliable information on apartments, employment, cost of living, frustrations and joys involved in island living, shipping pets and personal items, local events and much more. The site was developed and is maintained by Virgin Islanders and was launched in January 2004; new features have subsequently been added. Feedback from users is very positive.
VIMovingCenter.com is a resource for prospective and new Virgin Islanders. Information on St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John and Water Island is included. Tips for finding apartments and employment, tables with cost of utilities, list of schools, transportation options, government, voting and taxes are all discussed. There is a section on business and EDC benefits. There is an active discussion board where perspective residents, new residents and long time residents talk about various topics related to island living. There is a service directory where local businesses like insurance companies, shipping and storage companies and car dealerships can advertise their services. A job and resume board is included where local businesses can list job openings and learn about applicants.
The site is being used by college students interested in UVI, by retirees, by business owners, by locals, by Virgin Islanders who live abroad, by people who have vacationed and want to invest or relocate; it is reaching a large audience and is well received! Comments from users received include:

Sophia Aubin, a Virgin Islander, is the web editor of VIMovingCenter.com. She said, “The site’s purpose is to provide people interested in moving whether seasonally or permanently, in investing, in retiring or attending college in the Virgin Islands with a central location to learn about and discuss living in the Virgin Islands.”
VIMovingCenter.com also allows people who have recently arrived with a place to ask questions and get advice from established residents. Questions include how to conserve water, hurricane experiences and what doctor to go to. It’s an environment for networking and learning about the Virgin Islands as a place to live; and its working! Many people have used the site to their plan their move and are now using the site to settle in and to help others who are just starting out.
VIMovingCenter.com was launched in January 2004 as a sister site to VINow.com, a well established Virgin Islands travel guide. Together the two sites are informing thousands of people about the Virgin Islands. Each month over 30,000 people come to these Virgin Islands web sites and read over 1 million pages of information!
