With the millions being spent yearly on herbal supplements such as St. John’s Wort, Noni juice and Eyebright, it is essential that our understanding of their uses continues to grow. The Caribbean Association of Researchers and Herbal Practitioners (CARAPA) hosts an International Symposium on Herbal Medicines in the Caribbean. Each year’s gathering sports a different theme.

The Caribbean Association of Researchers and Herbal Practitioners (CARAPA) is made up of a multi-disciplinary group of members. CARAPA was formed in April 1998 at the end of the First International Workshop on Herbal Medicine in the Caribbean in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Since that time, CARAPA has held annual Conferences, firstly in St. Croix, USVI and then in Kingston, Jamaica. All of the CARAPA conferences strive to meet the objectives of supporting responsible bio-prospecting and the appropriate use of Caribbean herbs, based on sound information about their therapeutic and commercial properties, as well as reliable information exchange among CARAPA members about herbs and their products.
